2005 Upperdeckers World Series Summary

|
Up
next was the great pitching of the Highlanders. The Highlanders won the
first three games outscoring us 19-9. Game 4 Hernandez and Chipper
homer to win 6-2. Game 5 Hernandez and Andruw homer to win 3-2. In
game 6 there was no score going into the bottom of the 8th.
With 2 outs Hernandez hits a 2-run homer to win 2-0. Game 7 Rob brings
back his ace Hudson for his third start. We elect to stick with our
straight rotation pitching Barry Zito. Rob was up 1-0 going into the
bottom of the 6th. Marlon Byrd got a single and a steal with
Castillo on first to make it 2nd and 3rd with one
out. Chip hits a long fly to left, but it wasn’t deep enough to score
Castillo.
Now
with two outs Rob brings in Hasegawa to face Helton. While Hasegawa
trots in from the bullpen Helton is sitting there with the dice on his
card with 11 face up. I then roll the dice from Helton’s card and it
lands 11 for a double and two runs. Next batter is Hinske and he also
rolls 11 for a single and steal in the second column to score Helton.
This gives us a 3-1 lead, which was enough to win the World Series.
Chipper Jones was named MVP for his 9 RBIs 2 doubles and 3 homers.
Castillo hit 4 doubles 1 triple and 1 homer with 6 runs scored. Our
offense was horrible in the series hitting .199. We won on pitching.
Our starting pitchers pitched 56 and 1/3 innings and our bullpen only 5
and 2/3. When we were down 0-3 the next three games were all complete
games and Hernandez homered in all three games. |
