The Twin Cities Thunderchickens after their record-setting year of 1985, had
no problem repeating their first place performance. Amazingly, the
other record-setter of 1985, the Chicago Mercenaries who still hold the
record for 126 losses, had other plans. Not only did they end up in
second place in 1986, they took the playoffs by storm and won the World
Series. Pedro Guerrero was a big reason. He hit .331 with 34
homeruns. Dave Stieb won 22 games with a 2.78 ERA. Two all-time
records were broken in 1986 and remain intact today. Willie McGee of
the Green Rock Bombers hit an amazing 28 triples. In addition, speedy
Vince Coleman stole 119 bases.
